Artist's Statement

Les Ayre is an artist absorbed by the mystification of buried objects. The works look like minimal painting and sculpture but on closer inspection we find the objects are personal; objects of desire, lust, and emotion which are buried within. The artist gains fruition in traveling to specific burial sites all over the world to incorporate information into the work. Les Ayre has compressed all she has learned in painting in order to communicate in a highly personal mystical vision. Both moderate and large scale paintings open up the artist's personal reservoir of subjective notations. These lead objects are unique in that they are used to map out what the artist calls an internal symmetry. There is balance in the work between architectonic forms and ephemeral landscape. The effect is not unlike that of an aura that has been miraculously captured and pinned down for a fleeting moment. The lead has a radiant, softly glowing quality that gives these works their dynamism.
